Introducing The Yunnan Series
We’re proud to launch the Yunnan Series — a collaborative project with our friends at YunDian Coffee, spotlighting one of the most underrated coffee-growing regions in the world. The first release is Red Sparrow, an anaerobic natural Cartimor from Lao Wang at Red Dragon Estate in Baoshan. Lao Wang is a leading voice in Yunnan’s specialty scene, known for paying above-market prices, sharing free seedlings, and championing quality-led, transparent farming practices. Red Sparrow is processed using his signature restrained anaerobic method and delivers a bold, fruit-driven profile that challenges expectations of what Yunnan coffee can be. This series is all about resilience, traceability, and celebrating producers who are reshaping their region’s future — one cup at a time.
The Producer
Lao Wang, founder of Red Dragon Estate and Voiceless Coffee, began his journey in 2016 by returning to his hometown in Baoshan, Yunnan, with a mission to explore the region’s coffee potential. After meeting Uncle Yang, a lifelong coffee farmer, Lao Wang committed to paying above-market prices for fully ripe cherries and offering free seedlings, laying the foundation for his “All Red Cherry Plan.” With no formal background, he trained as a Q-Grader and completed advanced SCA courses, launching Voiceless with the belief that great coffee speaks for itself. His dedication to quality and experimentation has made him a leading figure in Yunnan’s specialty coffee movement.
