High on the fertile slopes of Mount Kenya, around 1,200 smallholder farmers grow coffee for Nguguini Factory, a historic wet mill established near Karatina in 1958.
The farms sit between 1,600 and 1,800 metres above sea level, where the altitude and cooler conditions allow the coffee cherries to ripen slowly and develop plenty of sweetness and character.
Once handpicked, the cherries are carefully sorted and fermented before being washed, soaked and slowly dried on raised African beds. It’s a meticulous process that produces the clean, vibrant cup Kirinyaga is known for.
We’ve roasted this coffee lightly for filter to preserve all that lively fruit and structure. Expect zippy grapefruit and sweet blackcurrant, balanced by a delicate body and silky black tea finish.
Bright, clean and full of energy. A great choice if you enjoy expressive coffees with plenty of fruit and a lively acidity.
